Step 3. Have you prepared the soil?

The term 'soil preparation' literally means groundwork. The list of things you need to be able to tick off the list before you can implement the 360-degree process.

  • Have you communicated your business objectives and vision to all staff so they understand the direction the company is moving and why?
  • Have you made your staff aware of the link between 360 and the business objectives?
  • Do they accept the contract of confidentiality, for example that while the results belong to the individual, organisational data may be collated and shared with senior managers?
  • Do they understand what the 360 process looks like?
  • Have you managed expectations in terms of time and effort? Does this include all the raters?
  • Have you provided people with the necessary skills to give and receive constructive feedback?
  • What are your people expecting to happen as a result?
  • When will the 360 be repeated?
  • Have you met all of their concerns?
