What? Why? How? When? - a little preparation will ensure greater appraisal success
Step 1. What is your purpose?
It is important at the outset that you are clear about what your organisation needs to achieve:
- Who and what does your organisation want to measure?
- What do you want these people to be doing differently and why?
This will ensure that you are focused when developing the questionnaire and selecting those to be involved in the process. It will also help when you come to evaluate the whole process as you will have set criteria against which to measure the outcomes.
It will also be important to think ahead:
- What will people do with the feedback?
- Will it only be used for development purposes?
- What development actions will be supported subsequently?
